Kingaroy’s dream of having a Big Peanut is one step closer to becoming a reality after the mega structure was named as a finalist in Wotif’s ‘Next Big Thing’ competition.
The Kingaroy Big Peanut Committee is asking for your help – and vote – to help the region get its nuts on the map!
As one of two Queensland entrants, the Big Peanut is up against fellow Queensland finalist, the Big Melon in Chincilla, and NSW entrants, the Big Tulip in Mittagong, and the Big Kilt in Glen Innes.
The competition is based on public voting, and the finalist with the highest number of votes will win.
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said that Kingaroy is the peanut capital of Australia and The Big Peanut is the perfect way to acknowledge the region’s nutty history.
“Peanuts are part of the Australian culture, from their place on the bar at the local pub, to a standard snack while watching any sporting match,” Mrs. Frecklington said.
“The Big Peanut will represent the place the peanut holds in Australian culture, and the history of nut growing in Kingaroy and the South Burnett.
Voting closes on 9 October 2018.
