MRCC Mayor Mark Eckel addresses community commentary

Mildura Rural City Council Mayor Mark Eckel has released a Statement, following reported community commentary in relation to several Council planning matters.

He says some of the comments made in the community contain inaccuracies and misconceptions.

The Mayor says the recent refusal of planning permit applications for three solar facilities in Merbein is not a reflection of Council's stance on renewable energy development, as some have allegedly claimed.

He says the applications were refused, as it's considered they didn't meet the requirements of the Mildura Planning Scheme to justify approval within the Older Irrigation Area.

Mildura Rural City Council has approved more than $2.5 billion in solar developments over the past decade.

The Mayor also touches on Meatco Abattoir; strongly refuting claims the abattoir has not yet commenced operations due to delays imposed by Council.

Councillor Eckel says Meatco is responsible for developing appropriate documentation for endorsement prior to operations commencing.
