Officials establish compliance regulator

The NSW State Government passes water reform legislation!

The first of what Regional Water Minister Niall Blair says will be a number of significant changes to water compliance and enforcement in New South Wales.

The legislation has officially passed through parliament, with officials set to establish an independent Natural Resources Access Regulator.

The State Government has worked to establish the regulator as a response to the serious allegations aired on Four Corners over water compliance and enforcement.

Government officials commissioned Ken Matthews to conduct a review, with the new legislation one of the key recommendations from his interim report.

The Regulator will oversee water compliance and enforcement across New South Wales.

Mr Blair says in addition to the Natural Resources Access Regulator Bill, the Government has already responded to many of Mr Matthews’ recommendations.

Officials will consult with the public early next year on more changes.
