A manhunt is underway for a shooter after a man has been found dead in Forest Lodge.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, was found dead in the middle of the street on the corner of Hereford Street and Minogue Crescent in what has been described as a clearly violent and targeted attack.
Police were called at approximately 12.40pm to the scene regarding reports that a man had sustained some head injuries.
He was declared deceased at the scene, with a firearm found at the scene.
Police have said that they are yet to determine if this was the cause of the injuries, and crime scenes have been set up at several locations in the street, including a house.
A man and a woman were seen in an altercation with the victim shortly before the call was placed to police.
"I'm satisfied with the search of the area by police," Acting Commander, Leichhardt LAC Sam Crisafulli said.
"These people we are looking for are not around at the moment
Police have said that people who live on the street may be allowed back into properties soon as the yard-to-yard search has been completed.
A police presence will be at the school nearby, with no lockdown in place.
"No one should be concerned with the safety of their kids," the spokesperson said.
It is understood that there were multiple witnesses at the scene to the incident, and anyone with information is urged to get in touch with Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The motive is unclear at the moment.
