Ex-Geelong full back says Buddy Franklin laughed at him the first time they played on one another.
Lonergan dropped by the Rush Hour today and told the story from back in 2009, with Buddy — then at Hawthorn — coming off a 100 goal season and a flag in 2008.
“I got moved on to him and he said ‘what’s your name again mate?’ and started laughing,” Lonergan said.
“I said ‘Mate, that’s fair, I don’t have any real reply for that because you’ve just come off a season kicking 100 goals.’
“I said ‘But, ah, you might know it be the end of the day!’”
Around that time Geelong went on an 11-match winning streak against Hawthorn, with Lonergan frequently playing on Buddy.
